Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@carfreqz.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Some Dash Cameras have a parking mode which will only work if the cables are hardwired into the vehicle. Hardwiring also hides 99% of the cable from the camera/s. You also free up your 12v socket for another device such a charging cable.

Every install is unique and can vary in time depending on what equipment is being installed and the level of work involved. You will be given a rough time scale upon booking your install however if at any point your install will over run the timescale given, you'll be notified as soon as possible.

Speakers, as we know, project sound away from the speaker towards the inside of the car, however what you may not know if that the speaker will also project some sound towards the outside of the vehicle. This sound is often lost into the door panel and may resonate through the car causing rattles and vibrations. Skinz sound deadening will reduce the amount of sound lost and help improve sound quality as well as reducing road noise.

Unfortunately we do not repair any equipment, we do however replace factory fitted equipment with aftermarket equipment.

When we remove your factory fitted stereo, you'll be left with a sizeable hole in your dashboard. The aftermarket stereo will be a different size and shape to the factory unit we removed so the facia is a plastic surround that fits around the new stereo and fills the gap giving a seamless finish.

Unfortunately not...there could be a number of reasons why however the most common is the manufacturers not releasing the pattern for the fascia and we will not leave you with a huge hole in the dash!  Another reason is some vehicles have a premium sound system that cannot be bypassed. Some vehicles have stereos that hold crucial information that will be lost and therefor affect the safety of the vehicle.

This is very vehicle dependant and we do require that a full inspection of the vehicle takes places before committing to anything. In most circumstances installs can take place, however there may be additional equipment required which will be discussed with you during the inspection.

No, our inspections are completely free of charge and they usually last anything from 15 minutes to an hour depending on the level of install required and the vehicle.

Due to us working from home, we do require inspections to be booked into the diary. We are flexible with timings and are able to offer evening and weekend inspection slots if required.

You can find the cost of many of the items we install in the store section of our website, however we do not have every item we may need for an install in the store due to the amount of items we'd need to list! Each install is treated on an individual basis as each install is bespoke to the customers requirements and the vehicle, so if you'd like to know the cost of anything please use our contact us form and we'll happily put a quote together for you.

The short answer is yes, however we do have a few stipulations!

We do not install any parts purchased through eBay or Amazon and we do not install second hand equipment.

If you have purchased equipment through a reputable supplier that has a warranty/guarantee clause, then after an inspection, we will happily install your parts for you. The reason behind this is that should we discover upon installation that the parts you've supplied are faulty, we require you to return them to your supplier - we do not offer any warranty or guarantee on parts that we have not supplied.

An Amplifier boosts the audio signal so it can power the speakers or subwoofer with enough strength to produce clear, loud sound. Basically, it improves sound quality.

Each speaker focuses on a specific range to improve sound clarity and balance, giving you a full, rich audio experience.

Tweeters typically cover 2,000Hz to 20,000Hz. They play high pitched sounds like vocals, cymbals and sharp instrument details They are usually located in the dash, A-pillars or upper doors. They are the smallest speakers, usually no more than 1" In diameter.

Mid-Range typically cover 250Hz - 2,000Hz. These handle most of the musical detail, things like vocals, guitars, piano ect. They are usually located in door panels or rear side panels. These range from 3" to 6.5" in diameter.

Woofers typically cover 40Hz to 250Hz and play the lower frequencies like bass guitar, kick drums, and deep vocals. These can be found in door panels as well as in footwells and under seats in some vehicles. They usually range from 6.5" to 8" in diameter.

Subwoofers typically cover 20Hz to 100Hz and produce deep bass - the kind you feel more than hear! They are often found in specific enclosures or in the boot and are usually 8" to 15"+ in diameter.

There are, of course, exceptions to every rule...!

A Cross-over is an electronic device which splits the audio signal into different frequency ranges and sends them to the appropriate speaker.

High frequency goes to the Tweeters.

Mid frequencies go to the Mid-range speakers.

Low frequencies go to the Woofers/Subwoofers.

This ensures each speaker only plays the sound it's designed for, which improves clarity and prevents distortion. Crossovers can be passive, which means they are built into the speakers, or active, which means they are stand alone units with more control.

The short answer is no, however you might want to consider changing your stereo if:

  • Your factory fitted stereo doesn't provide enough power or clean signal quality to get the best from your upgraded speakers.
  • You're adding a subwoofer or external amp and need RCA outputs or signal processing features.
  • You want modern features like Apple Car Play/Android Auto.

If your current stereo is holding back your upgraded features then it makes sense, however it is not always required.

Co-Axial is a type of speaker where multiple speakers are in one unit (such as woofer and a tweeter). One is positioned in front of the other and have the same central line.

Woofers handle low and mid range frequencies and a tweeter handles high frequencies. In a co-axial speaker the tweeter is mounted in the centre of the woofer. They are space saving speakers used in installations where space is limited.
